Glutamine Powder (225g)
Gastrointestinal and Immune Support
A high proportion of dietary glutamine is used by the intestinal epithelium as a fuel source. It also supports the growth of muscle mass and the gut epithelial lining. Glutamine is known to support the immune system: specifically, the gut-associated lymph tissue, lymphocytes, and macrophages (Castell, et al., 1996).
Glutamine has also been successfully used as a sports supplement. The Castell study on 200 marathon runners found that athletes taking part in the study using 5,000 mg of glutamine reported less incidence of infection within seven days of a marathon run. Only 19% of those in the glutamine group reported infections or colds, compared to 51% in the control group drinking a placebo of maltodextrin (carbohydrate) (p<0.001) (Castell, et al., 1996).
Glutamine plays a part in managing low blood sugar, since it is easily converted to glucose when blood sugar is low. It has also been used to manage cravings and anxiety in alcoholics, a finding that has been confirmed in double-blind human research. (Rogers & Pelton, 1957).
1 or 2 rounded teaspoons 1 to 4 times daily, or as directed by the healthcare professional.
Adults who need to support gut functions, or manage blood sugar levels and related cravings, or who exercise strenuously.
